A List of Actions to Date

We are a novice association in the world of river associations. We are over a year old and twenty years late. Being that as it may, from the onset, we have been committed to understanding the situation of the rivers and seeking solutions. All this takes time when you’re a small group of volunteers. The following is a list of actions to date. First, we wanted to develop awareness so we made a Facebook page, which has close to four hundred followers. Second, we brought the issues facing the rivers to all level of government. We now have ongoing dialogue with Municipal Counsellor Blair Phillips, MLA Kyle Macquarie, and Federal MP Jaime Battista. Third, we have also established relationships within DFO, who visited part of the rivers in December 2024 and have been a an ally and supporter. Fourth, we had a meeting where we voiced our concerns with the Atlantic Salmon Association ASF, the NS Salmon Association NSSA, and the Margaree Salmon Association MSA. Fifth, in January we introduced ourselves to Ron Jenkins who was the senior project manager for the Matrix Geomorphic Assessment presented to the MSA in 2017. Ron has been able to answer our basic question, “Can something be done to help the Margaree River?” His answer was yes and we continue to move forward to rehabilitate and help the great Margaree River. Ron Jenkins visited for two days in May 2025. His summary and recommendations are posted below.
